Haitian Drum Circle (WAVES x KinCultivate)

  • Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center 100 Southwest Memorial Place Corvallis, OR, 97331 United States (map)

KinCultivate is honored to support WAVES, the West Indian–Caribbean student organization at Oregon State University, in hosting a Haitian Drum Circle led by master artist David Durosier.

Rooted in the cultural traditions of Ayiti (Haiti), this gathering honors Haitian independence through rhythm, history, and community. Participants are invited to experience Haitian drumming as a living cultural practice shaped by African heritage and the ongoing story of freedom and resilience. This is a participatory, welcoming space that centers connection, shared learning, and cultural celebration.

Open to students and community members, this event offers an opportunity to come together through music and deepen understanding of the African Diaspora’s artistic legacy.

About the Instructor

David Durosier was born in Cap-Haïtien, Ayiti (Haiti), and began dancing and drumming as a child. He served as a principal dancer with the National Dance Company of Haiti and performed with the National Theater for 18 years. In the U.S., he has taught at universities including UC Berkeley, UC Riverside, Chico State, Reed College, and Western Oregon University. KinCultivate has had the honor of working with David through our affinity-based summer camp, where he led youth in Haitian drumming and dance. His classes blend music, folklore, and movement in a welcoming, transformative environment.
